Turkish PM says the completed presidential system's draft bill will be taken to referendum, and the country should instead focus on counter terrorism

Turkish ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party has already completed its work in a draft bill for the presidential system in the country, Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım said on Sunday.

"We have completed our work for a new constitution and the executive presidency," Yıdırım said in a closing speech of a two-day AK Party annual camp in central Turkey's province of Afyonkarahisar.

"What we will do now is take our proposition to the parliament as soon as possible, and leave it to the decision of the noble parliament," he explained.

He reiterated that after passing through the lawmakers vote in the Turkish Grand National Assembly (parliament), the bill will be taken to the people in a referendum.

“Our parliament can approve the bill either by 330 or 367 votes, but we will bring it to our nation for the final decision,” he said.

According to the Turkish constitution, a bill can directly be passed through the parliament if 367 out 550 MPs vote in favor of the bill.

But if the bill is approved by only 330 or more lawmakers, it must be approved by people via a referendum.

Yıldırım said that Turkey should keep away from the “system discussion” and instead concentrate on other more pressing matters: terrorism.

“Its [the nation's] energy should be spent on building a better future,” he added.

The Prime Minister said that Turkey is facing “many threats” and should focus on that.

“We are fighting terrorism both inside and outside the country,” Yıldırım said, indicating the Turkish military operation against the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), its Syrian affiliate YPG, Daesh terror groups and the Fetullah Terrorist Organization.

He stated that fight against all terror groups will continue with full determination.

Yıldırm ruled out a peace deal with PKK terrorists, saying that the operation will continue till all terror threats are vanished from the region.
